University of Scranton

Overview

The University of Scranton is a private higher learning institution that is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The school was established in 1888 by Reverent William O'Hara as St. Thomas College. In 1938, the school changed its name to the University of Scranton. The school is one of nearly thirty institutions in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

Academics

Four colleges form the university:

• The College of Arts & Sciences
• The Panuska College of Professional Studies
• The Kania School of Management
• The College of Graduate and Continuing Education

The University of Scranton offers 57 undergraduate majors and academic tracks for premed, prelaw, and pre-dental. Students can major in the physical sciences, natural sciences, humanities, math, social, and behavioral sciences.

The College of Graduate and Continuing Education (CGCE) was established in 2006 to provide services to a variety of adult students. The university has an adult undergraduate program in addition to masters programs in chemistry, counseling, education, business, nursing, health administration, software engineering, theology, and occupational therapy. The University of Scranton helps students work with their employer to seek tuition reimbursement.

The career services office works with the academic departments to help students find internships while in college and employment after college.

Online Programs

The College of Graduate and Continuing Education at the University of Scranton has launched several online programs in business, education, human resources, and physical therapy.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

The University of Scranton offers financial aid packages for qualifying students. In most situations, financial aid packages are available for students who study on campus.

International Students

Qualifying international students are eligible to study at the University of Scranton. International students go through the same admissions procedures as applicants from the United States. Students from non-English speaking countries must demonstrate English proficiency. Many international students have the option to complete the online program. In any case, students cannot receive a student visa while studying in the online program. International students are not eligible for financial aid.
