Jacksonville University
Overview
Jacksonville University (JU) is a private university in Jacksonville, Florida. The school was established in 1934 as a two-year college and was originally named William J. Porter University. In 1956, the school was renamed to Jacksonville University and became a four-year university.
Academics
Jacksonville University offers undergraduate and graduate programs. There are more than seven bachelor's degree programs and more than 70 majors, programs, and areas of focus for undergraduates. For graduate students, there are programs in nursing, business, education, and orthodontics. Adults can take classes during evenings and weekends. The university emphasizes its liberal arts focus.
The university integrates three educational methods by incorporating a liberal arts program, comprehensive university, and a professional college. Currently a marine science research center is under construction. JU also collaborates with Florida Coastal School of Law to offer law degrees. Prospective students may also apply for a full-time or executive MBA.
Aeronautics Program
The aeronautics program at Jacksonville University collaborates with Delta Air Lines to train pilot and aviation students. The Delta Connection Academy has recruiting programs with Atlantic Southeast Airlines, American Eagle Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines, Comair Airlines, and Trans States Airlines. The school's flight team competes in National Intercollegiate Flying Association Regional and National Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference.
