Radiology Schools

Overview

A radiology technician is a person who is trained to assist in radiological treatments administered by a medical doctor. For most part of the procedure, the technician operates the equipment, which produces images required for the treatment. A radiology technician also deals with other aspects, such as dealing with the patient during the preparation, explaining how everything works, helping the patient get into the correct position on the examining table, and adjusting the controls on the equipment to the settings called for by the doctor according to the established standards and guidelines.

Radiologic technologists are formally trained to work with medical equipment like computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, x rays, and ultrasound. There are many colleges and universities that train students in using these equipments. The more experienced a technician is the more complex procedures he will be expected to perform. For example, for the fluoroscopic procedure, the tech has to prepare a solution for the patient to drink, which allows the doctor to see various parts of the body that do not show up on an ordinary x-ray.

Depending on where a person gets trained, he or she may receive a diploma or certification. Job opportunities are favorable for those with a formal training in radiological science and technologies. A radiology technologist generally earns around $65,000 per year.

Schools

In most cases, you will need formal training to get a job in a hospital which employs radiology technicians. A good program can take up to four years, depending on your ability and give you a certificate, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree. Most radiology technicians come out of a two-year program, but there are one-year programs available for people who do on- the- job training, or for those who come from some other health occupation such as nursing. If you are interested in being a supervisor, a bachelor's degree is preferable. Testing & Preparation

Most schools start with the basics. So there is no any need for preparation. Every school has different pre-requisite requirements. Some might test your skills in mathematics and computer. You can get admissions into some schools even if you are not very well-versed with technology.
