Multimedia Degrees

Overview

Multimedia is content that is encapsulated in media. The content includes text, audio, graphics, video, and animation. Multimedia has endeared itself to various spheres of our lives and has spawned careers in various disciplines. If one is interested in any of these disciplines, then a degree in multimedia should be chosen. For a fresher, a multimedia degree often opens doors to a wide variety of career paths. A student may opt to do a Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and/or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in multimedia.

There are a number of excellent advantages to choosing multimedia degrees. The greatest benefit of doing this program is higher income. You gain the ability to work with challenging projects in the chosen industry. Various areas where multimedia degrees can be utilized include creative industries such as entertainment and fine arts, advertisement, engineering, medicine, education, industrial sector, and scientific research.

Costs

The tuition fee depends on whether the multimedia degree is obtained as part of an online and distance learning course or as part of a full time course. The online and distance learning courses charge less tuition fees as compared to a full time course. The tuition fee for a full time program in multimedia varies depending upon the school that offers the program. State universities generally charge lower fees than private universities.

Schools

San Francisco University, Platt College, and University of Southern California are some of the schools in the United States that offer programs in multimedia. There are also plenty on online colleges that offer programs in multimedia.

Testing & Preparation

A basic knowledge in calculus, digital signals, and sometimes even business courses is required for the joining the course. A prior knowledge of these areas greatly helps during the course of the multimedia program. For a BS, schools may ask for a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score. For MS and PhD, the student is required to provide the schools with a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score. For students whose native language is not English, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must be undertaken and the score submitted to the school for admission.

Financial Aid

For graduate and doctoral programs, financial aid is available from the school in the form of teaching assistantships and research assistantships for selected students. Other sources of funding include student loans, scholarships, and federal work Study program. You can also apply for Stafford Loan to pay for your studies.
