Dance Schools
Overview
People who are fascinated in dance know that there are many different kinds of dance like tap, jazz, ballet, modern dance, and hip-hop. Mostly people learn dance either in a college or university, but some learn dance in dance studios where they can choose to learn a style of their choice. As all other colleges, the better dance studios are located in the major cities and they are also affiliated with some of the prestigious dance companies.
Benefits
Dance may not be an easy choice of career, but it can reward your efforts. You need to be aware of the fact that the more artsy forms of dance do not tend to be as profitable as the other careers. For example, many great ballet dancers never made much of a living. However, there are some exceptional success stories like that of the Savion Glover. Dance may be your passion, but that does not mean that you have to devote your entire life to it. You can take up part time dance classes, while you hold down a job. You are sure to improve your fitness, even if you do not become a famous dancer.
Costs
The costs for dance schools vary widely with the type of class you choose and per session of dance studios may cost around $15. If you are ready to spend a lot of money, you can apply to one of the more prestigious schools. Many dancers begin learning their learning at a studio, and some at a studio throughout their career. This cannot be as expensive as the universities, but will increase as the course proceeds.
Schools
Dance is typically taught in a studio setting, rather than a university, so you have more flexibility in your class schedule.
The most prestigious dance school or program you could attend is probably the Juilliard School of Dance. Juilliard offers various different programs including bachelor programs and auditions are required for admission. Some of the other dance schools in the United States include University of Northern Colorado (School of Theatre and Dance), Colorado College, and Miami Dade College.
There are also a number of other options from local less known programs to colleges and universities.
Testing & Preparation
There are no standardized tests at dance schools. Your admission into the dance schools depends on your audition reports. You do not need audition for entry-level classes. If you seriously have an ambition to grow up as a dancer, get used to auditions because you will be doing the rest of your life.
Financial Aid
Financial aid may be eligible for dance school students. Artist grants are provided to students joining dance schools. Some universities may offer financial aid for dance programs and partial or full scholarships are offered by some dance studios. Some dance schools like Ohio University-School of Dance, University of Oregon- School of Music and Dance, and NYSSA School of Dance offer the students grants and scholarship to develop their skills in their colleges.
