Costs

The cost of a course related to counseling career depends on the duration and nature of the course and the school. Generally, a psychology degree costs $15,000 to $23,000 for regular courses. Depending on the nature of the course, the master's degree in counseling would generally cost anywhere from $200 to $700 per credit hour.

Schools

Formal counseling requires that the counselors are licensed. It is required that candidates applying for a counseling license must have completed a master's degree program and several hours of internships. In addition to school training, counselors often have to take state tests and achieve a qualifying score.  Certain states and employers, however, allow counselors to begin their career with a bachelor's degree and approved specialty classes. Psychology, sociology, child development, and education coursework are the most desired and pertinent fields of study to a counseling career. University of Alabama, Medaille College, and Arizona State University are some institutions that offer courses related to various specialties of counseling.

Testing & Preparation

Schools that offer courses in crime scene investigation require that students submit their Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score. In addition to proficiency in English, the students' interest and motivation is also assessed through interviews in some schools.

There are many kinds of financial aid that students can avail, like the Pell grant and Stafford loans. In addition, some colleges like Providence College and University of Wyoming also offer grants for their students who excel in their studies.
