Overview

If you have a knack for makeup and hairstyles, consider going to beauty school. Beauty schools train students to be skilled beauticians, while cosmetology schools teach you the craft of using makeup and hair styling.

There are many courses that you can choose to study in beauty schools. Most cosmetology schools offer certificate programs and associate degrees. The curriculum in most beauty schools include hair care, skin care, nail care, hair cutting, saloon management, and hair braiding.

Benefits

You can learn the requisite skills in beauty schools to succeed in the beauty and cosmetology industry. After completing the course in a beauty school, you can find jobs as hairstylists, manicurists, or makeup artists. If you are a trained beautician, you can find work very easily in any part of the country. You can also start your own business. The greatest advantage is that you will be doing something that you really love.

Costs

The cost of studying in beauty schools depends on the school that you choose to study in and the course you opt for. Some cosmetology schools charge around $10,000 while you can also join colleges that may charge about $6,500. Most certification courses may cost you around $3,000 to $5,000. Since there is plenty of schools that offer such courses, you can choose one depending on your budget.

Schools

Beauty schools are trade schools and not art colleges. There are some online schools where you can do a beautician course. Stratford Career Institute, Lincoln Educational Services, Marinello Schools of Beauty, and Empire Education Group are some of the schools that offer online courses in cosmetology. Some of the beauty schools that you can check out for regular courses are: International Academy, Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts, Beauty Schools of America, and Tricoci University.

Testing & Preparation

Admission to beauty schools is pretty straightforward and there are usually no selection tests. However, once you have completed the course you have to take an examination to get your license. The requirements for license are different for every state.

Financial Aid

Some schools provide financial aid, while others do not give any loans or grants. Marinello Schools of Beauty offers a Raw Talent Scholarship for deserving students. Some beauty schools have partnership with the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), and provide scholarships and grants to talented students. If you are looking for financial aid for your studies, you can check out the schools that are listed under this grant and apply in such colleges. Schools like American Beauty and Dudley Beauty College participate in the Federal Title IV Financial Aid Programs.
