Aviation Mechanic Schools

Overview

Aviation mechanics are the most important part of the aviation industry. The aircraft maintenance team works on the aircraft before and after a flight to ensure that all the parts of the aircraft are functioning normally so that there is no problem during flight. Aviation mechanics are generally involved in aircraft repairing, overhauling, testing, and servicing. They inspect the engine, landing gear, instruments, and other parts of the aircraft to ensure that they are working well. Aviation mechanics are also trained to examine and repair all the parts of engine. Using X-Ray and magnetic inspection equipment, they try to detect cracks or fissures in the aircraft body which may lead to unwanted accidents. Other tasks of aviation mechanics include maintaining record of the work done on the craft and retrieve diagnostic data from the electronic boxes in the airplane.

An aviation mechanic has to obtain certification in both airframe and power plant maintenance so that it would be easier to get a job. Such mechanics are commonly known as A&P (Aviation and Power plant) Mechanics.

The National Guard Reserve, Air Force, and Navy offer training in aviation mechanics to enlisted persons. National Aviation Academy, San Joaquin Valley College, Everglades University, and Connecticut Aero Tech School are some of the schools that offer programs in aviation mechanics.

Testing & Preparation

The minimum requirement for joining a program in aviation mechanics is a high school diploma or a General Education Development score. Reading, writing, and technical skills are essential along with an aptitude towards mathematics and mechanics. All applicants need to submit the Federal Aviation Administration form during their admission.
