Although some colleges charge a little above $1,000, the cost for the course is around $800. In case of an online program, software that simulates the car body and provides an interface, replaces all these charges.

Schools

Most vocational schools in the United States offer auto-repair technician degrees. Some regular schools offer auto-repair degree as a certificate program or an associate's degree. Some other schools stream into engineering as they offer automobile engineering and mechatronics. Some notable schools are Penn-Foster Career School, Universal Technical Institute, and Alexandria Technical College. Nascar Technical Institute offers a career-oriented training course, which absorbs the student into NASCAR racing.

Testing & Preparation

Enrolling applicants are required to have prior knowledge of the operation and handling of vehicles. High school courses and vocational training in community colleges can prepare you for this. The educational prerequisite for this course is a high school degree or diploma or GED. If you are taking up an online course, there may not be any requirements in many of the colleges. Hiring companies require that employees have a high school diploma or GED, in addition to an online diesel mechanic certificate of course completion.

FinancialAid

Financial aid in this course is offered in the form of grants, scholarships, and loans. For a regular course in an auto-repair school, scholarships are also available, based on academic performance or competitions involving a more hands-on approach. Colleges like Advanced Technology Institute, Arizona Automotive Institute, and Wyotech are some of the schools that support their students financially.
