ISEE Test Prep

Overview

Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) is mostly used by private schools as a standardized admission test. Even though curricula, teaching, and assessment standards vary from school to school, this standardized test is a one tool admission personnel that is used to determine if a student is worth admitting. Like the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT), the ISSE test consists of a short essay and multiple choice aptitude questions.

The aptitude test concentrates on math, reading comprehension, and the use of language. The essay is not scored, but it is sent to the schools along with the test results. The ISSE is offered at three levels such as lower, middle, and upper. Lower is for students seeking admission for grades 4-5, middle is for students applying for grades 6-8, and upper is for students applying for grades from 9 to 12. You must make your own arrangements to take these tests. The schools to which you are applying do not do this for you. Do not panic if you miss a registration deadline. Most test centers allow you to walk-in, provided they have enough test materials. If you are opting for walk-in, be sure to arrive early to register. If you need help paying the test fees, ask the school to which you are applying for a fee waiver. The Dr. Ben D. Wood Fee Waiver Program helps to defray the cost of the ISSE for students in financial need.
